Cessation of Approvals Services

After much consideration, a decision has been made that, from January 2008 onwards, InterConnect Communications Ltd will no longer offer approvals-related services to the manufacturers and resellers of communications equipment.

This decision – which covers both the provision of consulting services and the publication of InterConnect’s range of Approvals Manuals - has not been an easy one for us to make. Since the establishment of InterConnect in 1984, the provision of approvals services to telecommunications equipment markets has been an important component of our business offerings.

In more recent times, however, our global regulatory consulting activities have grown very considerably, with InterConnect becoming an internationally-recognised provider of regulatory professional services spanning legislative frameworks, licensing, universal service, network interconnection, tariff setting, numbering, radio spectrum management and institutional development.

Whilst primarily driven by our desire to focus on our core regulatory services, the decision to cease approvals work also reflects a number of subsidiary factors, notably the ongoing global trend towards the adoption of notification-based approvals regimes and the continuing high value of the Pound against the US Dollar and various other global currencies which makes it increasingly difficult for us to maintain a quality service at a competitive cost.

For these reasons, we feel that now is an appropriate time to make an orderly withdrawal from the approvals services market, though we will continue to be actively involved in advising on the regulatory aspects of equipment certification and type approval regimes.

InterConnect would like to take this opportunity to express its gratitude to its clients for approvals-related services – both past and present – for their much-valued custom over the years, and to wish them continued success in their endeavours.
